The all-new Suzuki Swift is due to land in Colin Appleyard showrooms at the end of May - and we have the low-down on what you can expect from the new model.
Although the new model looks like the sleeker, more angular sibling of the current Swift, Suzuki have actually completely redesigned it to make it lighter and more aerodynamic. This lighter platform, shared with the practical Baleno, means reduced fuel costs and a more agile drive.
WHAT WILL POWER THE NEW SWIFT?
The current model Swift was praised by critics for it's ride, cornering with grace and tackling motorway driving as well as city streets with ease. The new Suzuki Swift looks to improve this further by swapping out the previous 1.2 naturally aspirated engine with the new 1.0 Boosterjet as seen in the Baleno. This not only reduces CO2 emissions in the new Swift, but improves both acceleration and fuel economy.
The 1.2 dualjet engine will also make an appearance in the range, powering the SZ3 model, with a mild-hybrid (SHVS) version taking up residence in the 4x4 model, which Suzuki say will return up to 67mpg! The 1.0 boosterjet engine will also be available in the mild-hybrid setup for the first time.
WHAT ABOUT ONBOARD TECHNOLOGY?
The 2017 Swift will be launched with a whole range of new Suzuki technology, including advanced forward detection system with Dual Sensor Brake Support, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and high/low beam assist.
The base model SZ3 will come with LED daytime running lights, DAB Radio, bluetooth, 4 speakers, air-conditioning, leather steering wheel, front electric windows and rear privacy glass as standard. Step up to the SZ-T and you'll also get a rear view camera, 16" alloy wheels, smartphone link display audio and front foglamps.
The range-topping SZ5 will feature all that plus Sat Nav, 2 tweeters, auto air-conditioning, LED headlamps, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and start, electric folding door mirrors, telescopic adjustable steering wheel, rear electric windows and all the aforementioned safety technology.
OK, WHAT ABOUT COLOURS?
Due to the massive success of the Vitara dual-tone paint options, the new Swift will not only come in standard flat and metallic colours - you'll have the option to personalise your car further by having a main body colour, then separate roof and wing mirror colour. Fancy a black car with silver roof and wing mirrors? No problem!
WHAT ABOUT A NEW SWIFT SPORT?
We're very excited about the upcoming 2018 Swift Sport model as well. Suzuki have informed us that it will be powered by the new 1.4 Boosterjet engine that currently sits in the Vitara S. But that's all we know at the moment! If you want to be kept informed, make sure you sign up for our newsletters to get the latest news.
OK, YOU CAN STOP TALKING NOW. CAN I SEE MORE PHOTOS OF THE NEW SWIFT?
